Chicago, day 4, evening in the city

Image
By the time we left Macy's it was dark. We were going back to our hotel, the old Chicago Motor Club building, prior to going out again to sample the blues at Buddy Guy's. On the way Michael took us to the Palmer House Hilton, just along the street from Macy's. Founded by Potter Palmer in 1871, it was burnt down in the Chicago fire and rebuilt a couple of times, the latest in 1926. The hotel is in the jewellery district next to the old firm of C D Peacock. To celebrate this the lobby contains a set of beautiful brass doors created by Louis Tiffany. The peacock theme is duplicated in the street clock. I also took some photos around the bar area. The Hampton Inn was nice but not as posh as the Palmer Hilton, but then we would have been out of place! Here is the set of pictures from that evening.
