Hey hey USA - 11th, 12th October - Kelly Park and then a quiet day

Image
We were supposed to be staying at Ben and Jenny's for another night but we decided to take our disease ridden bodies back to Annes' and away from the healthy relatives. On the way out we had lunch in Kelly Park, a beautiful riverside location which had not been flooded and where people could swim and take inflatables out. You could walk a little way up the river and see the spring at it's source. When we arrived back at Anne's Ron greeted us with the news that he had also contracted Covid and had tested himself and seen he was positive. Our cover was blown!! The next day got our cases ready to leave for New Mexico the next morning and then went out for a picnic lunch. We tried for some nice riverside locations, but they were closed so ended up in the shadow of an F15 in DeBary Memorial Park. It did please Alan.

Hey hey USA - 11th October - a creepy house and a riverside visit

By late morning the two illest people felt like stirring themselves. It was mid October and all the Hallowe'en and pumpkin decorations were out in front of people's houses, so we drove a little way to see a house which was overburdened with hallowe'en gear. It might have been better to see it at night, but even in the noonday sun it looked pretty creepy.

Hey hey USA - 11th October - so many ways with Spanish moss

We had stayed the night at Ben and Jenny's. The next morning Covid was taking a hit. Anne was not able to do much except lie on the sofa and Alan was not much better. I was on an upward curve so took myself into the garden under the shade of the oak tree and set to photographing the Spanish moss. Glorious stuff, I hope you like it too.

Hey hey USA - 10th October - in Lakeland (not the shop)

After we had finished looking at all the Frank Lloyd Wright buildings in the College we drove down to Lakeland in search of a snack to stave us over till dinner. There was a Limpkin running away from the lake and a dog taking his ease.

Hey hey USA - 10th October - Florida Southern College and Frank Lloyd Wright

Anne wanted to take our niece Emma and us to Florida Southern College in Lakeland, about an hours drive away. We had seen Frank Lloyd Wright's home and studio in Chicago and had developed an interest in him so it was an exciting excursion for us. Nothing like a bit of concrete to enrich the soul! Florida Southern College was founded in 1852 and moved to Lakeland in 1921, choosing a virgin site to build on. In 1925 Dr Ludd Spivey became the College president. The time had come for the college to expand. Spivey wanted to create a truly modern campus and decided that Frank Lloyd Wright was the man for the job. In 1938 Wright, then aged 71, came down to Florida to survey the ground, which lies on a gentle hill rolling down 80ft to Lake Hollingsworth. He decided to work with Spivey, as long as Spivey could raise the money for the project. This collaboration has led to a unique campus of Wright buildings interlinked by a series of covered walkways known as the Esplanade, which run to ov
